Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion – Preparing for APEC 2027 and Private Jet Operations

Upgrading Aviation Infrastructure – Moving Toward International Standards

According to the approved master plan, Phu Quoc Airport will expand its current capacity from approximately 5 million passengers per year to 18 million passengers by 2027, with a long-term vision of 50 million passengers annually by 2050.
The project includes the construction of an additional 3,300-meter runway alongside the existing 3,500-meter runway, and the expansion of the aircraft apron to 70–80 parking stands, enabling operations of wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747, Boeing 787, and Airbus A350.

A new passenger terminal (T2) will also be built, inspired by the image of a phoenix, designed by Singapore-based consultancy firm CPG. T2 will accommodate both international and domestic passengers, meeting global standards with integrated retail space and exhibition areas. The expanded apron will include passenger boarding bridges to elevate the overall travel experience.

Advanced technologies—including online check-in, automated baggage handling, and biometric identification—will be integrated to streamline passenger processing and enhance operational efficiency.

Construction of a Dedicated VIP Terminal for Heads of State and Private Aviation

The project also includes the development of a dedicated VIP terminal — one of the very first specialized terminals for private jets in Vietnam. Covering a newly built area of 6,000 m², the terminal is designed to welcome heads of state and high-level delegations during APEC 2027.

Designed by Italian architect Marco Casamonti, the terminal takes inspiration from the wings of a sea eagle — a symbol of freedom, elegance, and fluidity over the ocean. It will be equipped with advanced technologies such as biometric identification, remote check-in, and automated baggage handling, reducing processing time to only 15–30 seconds per passenger.

Post-APEC Operations

After completion and its role in the APEC 2027 Leaders’ Summit, the dedicated VIP terminal at Phu Quoc International Airport will continue to serve:
